You Said
by Keith Nelson
You Said
You have beautiful blue eyes
I said
They are nothing
compared to the lumosity of your smile.
You said
It is so easy to listen to your voice
So I said, but that is nothing
compared to the smooth
endless ripples of your spoken and unspoken meanings
rolling up on my shore.
You said
Your love of life
sparks my enthusiasm
inflames my curiosity
So, wordless, I leaped up
tail flashing
like a deer
settled you astride my back
And away we bounded
into unexplored chasms
of the wide, wild world.
You said
I have always taken my time
to pause, to quietly absorb paintings
But now, when I go with you
I am drawn so close
I lie on the canvas behind the paint
see, feel smell the brushstrokes
as a soft quilt over me.
Yes, Yes, I say, I cherish that.
And every painter knows
How much colors and shapes
and emotions shift
with all that surrounds them.
Your sensitivity and vitality
surround me, over and over
newly painting the landscapes of my life.
You said
Never before have I laughed
so often, so deeply
as I do with you
Ha Ha I say, that is nothing
in comparison with the hilarity,
the parades of wild laughing cavorting rock-hopping penguins
the snowboarding swordfish
Your humor steers my way.
You said,
Truly I must say
I have come so deeply to love your every move and gesture and concern.
And I said, Well that is so perfect, because I feel precisely the same about you.
